State Sues Christian Widows Home
City:
Riverside, CA Riverside, CA- The Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) filed a civil lawsuit against Valley Christian Home for using the phrase "Christian environment" in their yellow page ad. The Fair Housing Council of Riverside, who filed the original complaint with DFEH, compelled DFEH to transfer their complaint from the DFEH Commission into the Superior Court of Riverside County. "This move by the Fair Housing Council of Riverside is only the latest chapter in this growing saga of callous hostility against this ministry and indifference to the ramifications of its actions on the elderly widows and widowers being served," said Brad Dacus, President of Pacific Justice Institute." Valley Christian Home is a church supported non-profit ministry which provides discounted housing and religious support services to elderly and disabled widows and widowers in the community. The Department disqualified the home from being able to state its religious affiliation in its yellow page ad, simply because the home provided housing to a Jewish widower. The original complaint requested that the ministry pay monetary damages claimed by the Fair Housing Council of Riverside. "We at Pacific Justice Institute have put together a litigation team which is committed to representing this compassionate ministry to the needy elderly of the community," said Dacus. "Mother Teresa-like ministries must not be threatened and bullied into feeding the bottomless appetites of greedy agencies at the expense of elderly widows." Pacific Justice Institute is an organization dedicated to the defense of religious freedom, parents rights and other basic constitutional civil liberties. |
